About Inner Light Daily
Inner Light Daily is a running record of one person's spiritual practice, kept by Rowan Blake, a freelance illustrator in Portland who did not go looking for any of this. The site exists because tracking an experience she could not fully explain, out loud and in public, turned out to be more useful than keeping it in a notebook nobody else would ever read.
Entries here move across meditation, breathwork, journaling, and energy work, along with the more unglamorous edges of a spiritual practice: gear that got returned, subscriptions that lapsed after a month, the theta-wave research behind why one kind of meditation seems to help a creative brain more than another, and the actual mechanics of a dark night of the soul versus how people use the phrase loosely online. The site does not rank any of it by how legitimate or fringe it sounds. It sorts by what held up after repeated use and what quietly got dropped.
Most of it gets written at a scarred laminate drafting table under north-facing windows, in a converted print shop in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood, usually before the radiator finishes its six a.m. knocking. That is the entire operation: one drafting table, an altar shelf wedged between two bookcases, and whatever got noticed that week.
Rowan writes as someone two years into an experience she never trained for, not as a guide or an authority on anyone else's path. Everything published here comes from what she has actually tried in her own apartment and her own practice, not from a certification, a client roster, or a teaching background.
This site draws entirely on personal experience with spiritual practice and is meant for reflection, not instruction. What shifted for Rowan will not necessarily shift for anyone else, and none of it has been studied or confirmed as a repeatable method. None of it replaces professional mental health care, medical treatment, or relationship support. Anyone experiencing intense psychological distress, dissociation, or sensory changes alongside a spiritual experience should talk to a licensed therapist or psychiatrist rather than a blog.
